EU washes hands of US magazine article about Algeria

The European Union Wednesday acquitted its official’s previous remarks published in a US magazine. He would have shown concerns about the political situation future in Algeria.

Algeria News Agency (APS) quoted spokeswoman for the EU Nabila Mesrali, saying the magazine article does not reflect the EU’s position neither its policy towards Algeria.

She also said relations between the EU and Algeria are strong and permanent especially in the energy sector.

Earlier, a US magazine quoted an official at the EU without mentioning his name, saying the EU wants to launch big investment projects but it is reluctant due to the political situation in Algeria.

It also said any cooperation with Algeria in the energy sector depends on a possible political change.

Algeria’s foreign minister Ramtane Lamamra sais he refuses to comment those remarks which embody hate towards Algeria.

Algeria’s Ambassador to Brussels Amar Blani said the sustainable and structural relation between Algeria and the EU in the energy sector is strategic.

He added that the relation has been developed since a strategic association agreement was signed between Algeria and the EU in 2013.
