Informed sources from the Ministry of religious affairs and endowments told “Echorouk” that Christians in Algeria of who are followers of the Protestant Evangelical Church have requested a face to face meeting with both the Interior and local assemblies minister Tayeb Belaiz and the religious affairs minister Mohamed Aissa to secure the implementation of urgent measures concerning the settlement of outstanding issues in relation to the Algerian legal framework regulating free religious practice in the country.

According to the same source, the move was initiated by a group of Christians from the Protestant Evangelical Church in Algeria, who filed their demands to the two above-mentioned ministries which are directly connected with religious practice in the country.

Among other demands, these Protestant Evangelical Church Christians  requested the urgent and decisive intervention of the relevant Algerian authorities to implement the necessary procedures for the free import of Bibles and Christian books to Algeria, contending that they have been prohibited from import for a long period of time now.
