Expert: this is why World Bank is not satisfied about Algeria
Economic analyst Abderrahmane Benkhelfa said the World Bank’s reports have never been in contradiction with the Algeria Bank. “The conflict between the two parts is due to different visions to improve the situation. The World Bank always rejects Algeria’s subsidy policy and wants it to ban the 51-49 rule.”
The expert said the World Bank’s reports are based on information it receieves from Algeria. It always recognizes that there is flexibility in Algeria in terms of information exchange compared to other countries.
“Yet, the difference we notice in those reports is due to the divergence in points of view concerning solutions. Algeria always offers temporary solutions to face deficit and takes into conisation social aspect,” he added.
A number of issues raise divergence between Algeria and the World Bank. Of them, the black and the official markets, local currency value and the 51-49 rule. “Because of that, we are always ranked at the end of the Doing Business lists.”
“People who prepare Doing Business reports told me that they recognize Algerian executives’ competence and know that they are able to improve the current situation. They always say Algeria deserves to be ranked among top countries,” said Benkhelfa.
