Extensive Promotions Within the National Security Services

A large number of police agents and personnel will receive promotions to various ranks on the occasion of the celebration of the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the Algerian police, corresponding to July 22 of each year, as it will be strengthened with individuals who enjoy competence and professionalism in the field, especially in combating all forms of crime, such as organized crime, including trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances, against which the security services declared a fierce war.
Reliable sources told Echorouk that the special committee for promotions, consisting of the central directors of the General Directorate of National Security, has been studying the candidates’ files for some time and preparing a list of police officers and agents who will benefit from promotions to higher ranks on the occasion of Police Day, corresponding to July 22.
Regarding the standards that were relied upon, official sources in the General Directorate of Security revealed to Echorouk that the promotions that came were not arbitrary, but rather based on a careful study of all the candidates’ files, case by case. The committee spent several days examining the files and taking into account the extent of their compatibility with the pre-determined criteria, which include entitlement and seniority in rank, the method of performing rankings, good behaviour and perseverance, educational attainment, the period of regular service in the south of the country, the nature of the position of responsibility occupied for the officials’ category, in addition to productivity and effectiveness in performing tasks, especially in the results of criminal cases.
In addition, the promotion approved by the Director General of National Security, Ali Badaoui, falls within the framework of settling the administrative situation of police employees and improving their financial situation, which is the task that the first official in charge of the police force has been undertaking since assuming the position of Director General.
Ali Badaoui will oblige the police officers who will benefit from the promotions to use their experience, knowledge and skills in the field, especially in combating all forms of crime such as organized crime, including illicit trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances, and to focus on the need to give “the utmost importance” to neighbourhood work and to continuously address citizens’ concerns, with the necessity of strict adherence to the laws of the Republic and respect for the principles of human rights, on the basis that promotion to a new rank is considered a moral incentive for performance excellence, which depends on commitment and discipline under ethical and behavioural standards as a model to be emulated.
