Fake officer arrested in Algeria

The National Gendarmerie forces caught 16 forged administrative documents in the province of Chlef (west of Algiers) in the possession of a man who posed as a high ranking officer in the Algerian army.

• The suspect cheated 15 people as he promised them to settle their situation toward the national service and employ them in the Army in return for 500,000 dinars.
• One of the victims lodged a complaint with the Gendarmerie last week against the suspect, saying he had swindled him.
• The security forces arrested him red-handed and sent him to prison.
• According to a report issued by the communication cell at the National Gendarmerie, criminals who claim that they hold senior positions, collect information about he nature of the most prevalent problems to choose the suitable fake position.
• Criminals tend to a military position due to its influence, said the same report.
• The National Gendarmerie handled 185 cases over the last three years. More than 190 people were arrested including women.
• The ‘fake colonel’ cheated 48 people. Most of them were students who applied for a job at the various National Gendarmerie sections.
