Feverish competition among parties in charge of waging Bouteflika’s election campaign
The FLN Party is bracing to act as the driving force of the upcoming election campaign backing incumbent President Bouteflika’s re-election bid with the aim of garnering the projected political spin-offs in case of the President’s victory in the April 17 presidential electoral contest.
Arguing that it represents the majority of the electorate, the FLN however wants to share the brunt of the forthcoming election campaign with other loyal political parties backing President Bouteflika’s candidacy for a fourth straight term in office.
The official setting up of the General Management body in charge of spearheading and steering the President’s election campaign is slated for next Thursday in Algiers.
Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal is widely expected to chair this body, according to reliable sources close to the national support committee.
The latter will strive to present outgoing President Bouteflika as the candidate of the people as a whole at the planned popular rallies and press statements throughout the campaign trail.
For his part, FLN Party Secretary General, Amar Saâdani, installed on Monday at the party headquarters in Hydra district of Algiers, the national committee in charge of conducting the forthcoming nationwide election campaign in the name of incumbent Bouteflika in close conjunction with other back-up parties including the RND, the MPA and TAJ and also with the active contribution to this effect of loyal mass organizations and manifold associations across the national territory.
