The Grand Mosque project

Algeria responded in its own way, to a disparaging French media campaign, stoked by some malevolent local media outlets, whereby the latter targeted the “feasibility” of the project of the future grand mosque of Algiers because French construction companies were ruled out from the lucrative project after proper assessment on the matter by the relevant Algerian authorities who opted for a major Chinese construction company instead.

In this respect, Algeria secured the “diplomatic blessing” for this mega project from about fifty Arab, Muslim and Western nations represented by their respective Ambassadors posted in Algiers.

In this regard, about fifty ambassadors accredited to Algeria, paid on Tuesday a visit to the construction site of this future mosque in the Mohammedia district east of the capital Algiers, where they expressed their utter “admiration” at this future outstanding religious and cultural edifice as reported by the APS news agency.

Apart from its religious significance coupled with its cultural and tourism scope, the future Grand Mosque of Algiers in which new construction techniques are used for the first time in Algeria, will be an outstanding reference as a genuine work of art.

Spanning over 20 hectares, the Grand  Mosque of Algiers, the third largest in the world, has a prayer hall of 20,000 m2, an esplanade and a minaret from a height of 267 m, a library, a cultural center, Dar El Qoran, gardens, parking, administrative buildings, as well as reserved spaces for restaurants.

The construction works of the Great Mosque of Algiers, the third largest mosque in the world after those of Mecca and Medina (Saudi Arabia), have been entrusted to the Chinese building company (CSCEC).

The Grand Mosque of Algiers aims to become a major pole of attraction for religious, cultural and scientific, matters combining authenticity and modernity through its particular architectural style.
