Fifty Thousand Dinar fine on each Algerian taxi driver caught working inside Tunisia

Protests at the Algerian border crossing of Taleb Arbi adjacent to the Tunisian border crossing of Hazoua, were held on Saturday night, by the owners of taxis of the province of El Oued province, in the wake of the decision by the Tunisian security authorities preventing them from working inside Tunisian territory, on the pretext of not having a relevant official permit from the Algerian authorities.

A number of taxi drivers disclosed to our local reporter that the border Guard patrols of the Tunisian police, especially in the Tozeur border province close to Oued Souf that fines reaching up to fifty thousand dinars would be imposed by the latter on any Algerian taxi driver who is caught illegally transporting passengers inside Tunisian territory.

It should be noted that agreements between the Maghrebian countries on the transfer of goods and people, were concluded several years ago, but they haven’t been applied and abided by for still murky reasons.

The road traffic between the province of Oued Souf and cities of Tunisia in the north and the south, has been witnessing a great dynamics, because of close family and business relations, which link the provincial populations with those of Tunisia.
