First Algerian farm group faces bankruptcy for malpractices

The judicial authorities of the province of Taref (eastern Algeria) are investigating on malpractices registered in the biggest state farm group in Algeria which comprises four giant factories specialized in the transformation of the industrial tomato, following a complaint lodged by the members of this group.

  •
  • In a letter sent to the Algerian president, the plaintiff denounced some officials’ malpractices and gross misconducts as they took advantage of their positions to hold sway on the group and sold the company’s equipment.
  •
  • More than that, they rent the group’s premises and transformed its activities from agrarian to commercial, industrial ones. Moreover; they looted the headquarters and transformed them to garbage dump places.
  •
  • Some of the company’s premises were transformed to liquors wholesale and retail warehouses and deprived innocent farmers from the 2000 production’s benefits. The company is crumbling under debts and billions of bills are pending.
  •
  • On the other hand, the cotton’s factory located in Annaba (eastern Algeria) was rent in suspicious ways and the cotton’s seeds that were imported with hard currency were exported back to Afghanistan, missing the opportunity to produce cotton in the region as it was the case in the past.
  •
  • It should be noted that “Echourok” has forwarded the letter to targeted people, but the declined further comments on the matter saying that they were not concerned about the complaint.
