Some 80 policewomen will join anti-riots forces in Algeria, according to national police chief.

“Around 80 policewomen will work for anti-riots forces,” Ali Tounsi told Echorouk Thursday.

“Policewomen now have a high level of experience and skills. People can feel their important role.”
- “Women proved their competence on the ground just like men in the same position. Some of them were promoted to high ranking responsibilities as police superintendent,” he said.

Tounsi also said around 15 new police stations will be opened in Algiers especially in shanty town to tighten the noise on suicide bombers and criminals.

He stressed the importance of cooperation between people and the police. “This would urge policemen to make more efforts to gain people’s confidence.”
