Five tons of drugs seized east of Algiers
The regional gendarmerie of Rouiba, east of Algiers, thwarted the attempt to smuggle 5 tons of drugs which were hidden within three containers that were prepared in the port of Rouiba, east of Algiers.

The quantity of drugs was prepared for smuggling in Algiers port towards European countries and it’s considered the largest of the kind in the capital, on the grounds that the largest quantities of drugs were seized in the western borders of Tlemcen, west of Algeria, and particularly in the south west of Bechar, south of Algeria.

Colonel Taibi Mostafa, commander of the regional gendarmerie, presented Monday details of this case during a press conference at the gendarmerie headquarters of Rouiba. He said that the preliminary investigation reveal on the involvement of people working in the administration.

The colonel Taibi said information about the existence of drugs in the port of Algiers were received that’s why we adopt a new security plan that cover all the ports of Algiers, through intensifying control and inspection for a period exceeding 20 days in complete secrecy.

The quantity which was seized by Algiers gendarmerie is the largest in the war against drug trafficking, because the amounts that were seized did not exceed 2 tons by all the service of combating drug smuggling in Algiers, mostly directed for consumption in the other regions.

This time the drug trafficking was directed to dump the European market with the Moroccan hashish after the tight control on the south west borders, where the border guards of the tenth group of the third region of Bechar seized more then 8 tons since the beginning of 2009.
