Flash strike strands thousands of passengers at Algiers international airport

Thousands of passengers were left stranded at Algiers international airport and dozens of flights were cancelled due to a sudden movement of strike conducted by the pilots of the Algerian flight company to denounce their precarious socioeconomic conditions.

  • Meanwhile, the passengers have condemned the move considering as a humiliation from the Algerian flight company.

  • The strike has completely paralyzed the airport’s activities and cancelled all the flights except the flight number 1002 bound to Paris after 2 hours delay and the flight number 1004 toward the same destination after more than 3 hours delay thanks to two retired pilots, one of the protesters has revealed to Echourouk.

  • The situation was chaotic yesterday at the airport’s halls amid hysterical passengers that flocked early in the morning heading for their initial destinations abroad on board of the Algerian flights.

  • “ I have never seen such a humiliation before” a lady has declared to Echourouk. She has further told Echourouk” I came at dawn from Ghardia, southern Algeria, heading for Dubai on a flight scheduled at 10 am”.

  • “ But nobody has advised about the delay or the cancellation of the flight”, she added. “ The passengers are roaming helplessly” Mrs Mounira went on saying.

  • M Djamel, a manager in a foreign oil company based in the south, has indicated that the Algerian flight company has simply taken thousands of passengers as hostages considering that the pilots should have informed the passengers before conducting their movement.

  • Talking on condition of anonymity, one of the protesters has revealed to Echouoruk that the pilots’ main demand pertains to the rise of their salary to meet the international standards.
