Disgruntled members of the FLN party central committee have threatened to take over the party headquarters in Hydra district in upper Algiers if the relevant provincial authorities do not give them the official green light for the holding of a special central committee meeting aimed at removing from the top rostrum current secretary general Amar Saidani through a regular and transparent election, as they put it.

They argued that Amar Saidani had no legitimacy whatsoever and his ousting was not only sought by a large number of FLN party militants but also by widespread segments of the national public opinion as well.

A former member of the FLN party politbureau, Aissa Kassa, told Echorouk that Saidani’s pseudo election to the post of secretary general of the party came following “shady maneuvers behind the scenes and the ensuing election process was marred by blatant lapses and irregularities in utter violation of the party’s ethics and internal regulations”.

He added that numerous party militants, including the rank and file, were eagerly wanting to clear the party from the nefarious Saidani inner circle and elect a new leadership endowed with a bona fide legitimacy and a clean political slate so as to shore up the brand-image of the FLN party in the eyes of the national public opinion and to promote its manifold assets at all levels of governance.
