Foreign Ministry Brings Journalist Samira Mouaki Back To Algeria

Journalist Samira Mouaki, arrived on Thursday, to the homeland, coming from Iraq after suffering serious injuries on the level of the head, after being shot by an ISIS sniper, during the coverage of the war of Mosul.

She was taken quickly in coordination with her relatives to Blida Hospital of France Fanon, directly after arriving to Algiers Houari Boumediene Airport, as this comes after Echorouk Media Group made, since two days ago, a request for the Foreign Ministry, through a press release, stating the need to intervene to bring her back to homeland.

Latest updates on the situation of the journalist, according to the official spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, Abdelaziz Ben Ali Cherif, on Thursday, is that the members of the Embassy of Algeria in Iraq, oversaw the process of accompanying the war reporter Samira Mouaki to Baghdad’s airport, to return to Algeria.

“We noticed a positive development in her health situation, and we made it sure, on Thursday, after her presentation to a thorough examination, which was conducted by the medical team, which authorized her travel, and it recommended that she completely needs to stay comfortable during the recovery period, due to her difficult psychological situation, after the serious injuries”.

“We should not neglect the efforts that were made by our brothers in Iraq, after the good job to save the life of the Algerian war reporters, Samira Mouaki, and during the period of treatment, when attention was given by the higher authorities and the government in the brotherly country, Iraq, and this was evident both during the health care of her situation and the follow-up which she received or through the sympathy of the Iraqi people.”

“The case of the journalist Samira Mouaki was addressed at length by the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ramtane Lamamra, during the meeting with his Iraqi counterpart, Dr. Ibrahim Alachqari Al Jaafari, on the sidelines of works of the 34th session of the Human Rights Council”.

Previously, Echorouk Media Group issued a statement explaining the situation of its previous reporter, Samira Mouaki, and asked the Algerian and Iraqi authorities to intervene to bring her back to Algeria, to complete treatment and exercise her natural life, without pressure, and explained in a lengthy statement, the relationship of the journalist Samira Mouaki with the institution, which sent her to cover the battle of liberating Mosul, after her insistence, with life insurance, and after the end of the period Echorouk asked her to return to Algeria, however, she preferred to stay there and published an informal resignation on her Facebook page.
