Well-informed sources told Echorouk that the Algerian security services have opened over the past few weeks an in-depth investigation into the shadowy practices of unknown foreign organizations which have been striving to collect maximum information on the current situation in Algeria on the eve of next April’s presidential elections through numerous phone-calls from abroad.

The relevant security services swiftly took the necessary steps after being alerted by flabbergasted citizens who affirmed having received mobile phone-calls from France from unknown persons who pretended representing associations in charge of drafting opinion poll surveys about the ins and outs of next April’s presidential polls in Algeria.

According to the same sources, these citizens also told the security services that their France-based phone-callers, mostly Arab women, asked them questions about Algeria’s situation as well as about President Bouteflika’s candidacy for the upcoming elections and about their own opinions on several Algerian personalities including Amar Saâdani, Ali Benflis and Ahmed Gaid Salah.

These mysterious phone-callers, who didn’t reveal their identity, also wanted to know about the socio-economic juncture of their Algerian interlocutors who have so far remained baffled about the unspoken motives and reasons behind such inquisitive phone-calls they received from overseas.
