Former Egyptain goalkeeper Ahmed Choubir has apologized for the role he played in the conflict that broke out between Egypt and Algeria during the world cup qualifiers, adding that it was the most important role in his whole life.

Choubi went on saying” I intended to pass a humanistic message to everybody and I was about to succeed if not the intervention of some who unfortunately spoiled the move”.

Talking about the conflict, Choubir added “Let’s admit that the Algerian bus was attacked by Egyptian on its arrival to Cairo airport and we mustn’t deny it”.

“ Fans have exaggerated somehow when dealing with the Algerian delegation, but the bus has been attacked by stones in Egypt”, he added.

The former goalkeeper who took part to the 1990 World Cup in Italy went on saying” The Egyptian fans rushed to the Algerian embassy in Cairo to burn it but the authorities barred the route for them”.

Ahmed Choubir has admitted that he opinion towards Algeria has changed during the events that followed the matches between Egypt and Algeria during the qualifiers.

He further added” I intended to play a part in the reconciliation process and ease tension but after the attack on the Algerian bus I changed my mind”.
