Former Director of the French Intelligence, Yves Bonnet, refuted the subtraction that was promoted by some French parties, that Tibhirine monks were killed by error as a result of an air strike.

He concluded by saying: “It’s hard to believe that the Algerian authorities are evading while they show their desire in openness.”
French Intelligence Official, Yves Bonnet, -1982 to 1985 – speaks in his new book, “Shepherd of Touggourt” about the killing of Tibhirine monks on March 1996, and stresses in the folds of the book that the Armed Islamic Group (GIA) were behind the monks’ assassination.
The author of the book reveals that he get a copy of the case’s file, which was handed over to the DST -Domestic French Intelligence- which, in turn, deliver a copy to the Vatican through the Cardinal Toron, to reach a result that it is difficult to be convinced that the Algerian authorities evade while they clearly show interest in openness.
He referred to his trip to Algeria, during which he was able to check out the seven monks file: “I had the opportunity to check out the Tibhirine monks file, at the headquarters of security and query in Blida Directorate, as Rooney Guitton who wished to write a book about this tragedy, and who was aware of my knowledge in Algeria, asked me to visit Algeria and I accepted, and we went to Algeria, where my friend Ismail Amari -former Algerian anti-espionage official- who died in 2007, provided all the facilities to shed light on this issue.”
“Smain Amari graciously dispatched a young security agent to accompany, Rooney Guitton to Blida, Medea and Tibhirine”. Bonnet admits that he had the chance to check out the file that was written in French.
