Former minister Ali Haroun discloses fresh truths in his new book
The former member of the State supreme Council Ali Haroun has disclosed, in a newly published book, one of the darkest periods in the Algerian modern history marked by an international embargo over the country in the wake of the stopping of the electoral process in 1991.
- In his book untitled “ clarifications about fears over Human Rights Emancipation ( 1919-1992)” , the author highlighted the efforts deployed as then- minister of human rights in the onset of the 1990s , to break the siege over Algeria and the tug of war between the Algerian authorities and their French counterparts during François Mitterand era.
- Ali Haroun draws a parallel between the Spanish official stand and the French one towards the Algerian authorities that took over after the resignation of the former president Chadli Ben Djedid, the Spanish stand was more receptive to the Algerian authorities if compared to the French ones that vehemently criticized the cessation of the electoral process, then.
- The former militant has indicated that the Spanish officials were very concerned by the Algerian internal affairs amid an international embargo. They questions focussed on the existing relationships between the Algerian government and the military institution, as well as the democratic prospects in the country.
- Answering to the Spanish foreign minister, Ali Haroun has indicated that the Algerian army was the guarantor of democratic process initiated in Algeria, stressing on the importance of the stability of the country to assure the stability of both sides of the Mediterranean shores.
- But he didn’t expect similar treatment from the French authorities that vehemently criticized the stopping of the electoral process of December 26, 1991 considering it as a “ violation against democracy”.
