Franco-Algerian Project: 139 Christian and Jewish cemeteries collected in 26 cemeteries
The French Foreign Ministry defines October 23, the deadline for receiving applications of French nationals wishing to transfer the remains of their loved ones buried in Algeria to France.
The French FM asked them to get close to the country’s consulate in Algiers, Oran and Annaba, carrying evidence that confirm the identities of the dead person and the place of the burial or tomb.
The resolution of June 23, 2011, issue by the French authorities, asked them to go to the directorate of French nationals living aboard at the level of the ministry, as well as the consulates in Algiers, Oran and Annaba, to get the technical cards required for the file about compiling and transferring the remains of French buried in Algeria.
The resolution includes gathering the Christian and Jewish graves dating back to the era of colonialism in large and localized cemeteries, so as to facilitate their maintenance, rehabilitation and custody.
In this regard, the graves located in Reghaia, Ain Taya, Pain Maritime, Bourdj El Kifane, Dar Bida (Algiers) will be assembled in one large cemetery of Belfort in Harrache (Algiers).
It was decided also to collect 15 cemeteries across different regions west of Algiers (Baba H’san, Bir Touta, Bouzereah, Ch’raga, Dali B’rahim, D’raria, El Achour, Malma, Ouled Fayet, Erramania, S’hawla, Swidania, S’tawali, Zeralda), and put them in the cemetery of El Biar, in addition to the cemeteries of Bir Khadem .
In the same context, nine cemeteries in Ain Defla have been collected in one, seven in Blida and three in Boudj Bouariridj (east of Algiers), 13 in Tipaza, three in Tizi Ouzou, Two in Annaba, Six in Taref, 15 in Galma, two in Jijel, four in Mila and Omu Bouaki, Six in Ain Temouchent, five in Mostaghanem, 12 in Sidi Belabes, three in Tiaret, one in Tissemsilet, five in Telemcen, Six in Setif, Six in Skikda and Two in Tebessa.
