French-German Competition For New Quotas In Algeria Car Market

Algeria car market is witnessing a strong and fierce competition between the French and German dealers after the Energy and Mines Minister, Youcef Yousfi, announced the presence of dozens of applications for investment licenses in the car installation factories, which were deposited at the table of the National Investment Council.

As France seeks to make the success of the Peugeot factory in Oran, western Algeria, which has problems in the real estate for its completion, the German non-governmental organization for the promotion of trade and investment will hold a meeting in Berlin, next December, with Algerian traders to discuss the prospects for the completion of new German car factories in Algeria, following the Mercedes and Volkswagen factories, and offers that were made by the handling and spare parts market in Algeria.

Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry published through its website; “As part of the development of the Algerian-German economic relationships, the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with the Non-governmental Organization for the Promotion of Trade and Investment and the Algerian Embassy in Berlin, a delegation of Algerian businessmen will travel, from December 1 to 5, 2018, to Berlin, Germany”.

“This mission is an additional opportunity for the Algerian economic traders who are interested in the Bavarian market, and is ready to develop partnerships with their German counterparts in many sectors that are related to food industries, renewable energies, mechanical and automotive industries, information and communications technology and electronics, infrastructures, pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries and the financial sector as well”.

In this context, the Chamber of Commerce asked the companies that are interested in participating in this mission to return the attached registration form by fax or e-mail before October,30, 2018.

Industry and Mines Minister, Youcef Yousfi, said earlier this week that his services are in the process of considering dozens of requests for car installation plants that are offered by foreign traders who are wishing to invest in the Algerian market, as the file is currently on the table of the National Investment Council, which will study them to respond negatively or positively, which means that there is no precise list for investors in the car sector.

“Investment in the car installation sector is still attracting the attention of dozens of foreign businessmen and international brands that filed a request at the table of the Industry Ministry, and specifically the National Investment Council, which will study all of them, while the handling sector also raises the interest of thousands investors”.

“In this context, Algeria counts the production of between 30.000 and 50.000 cars a year, which contribute to the recovery of the mechanical industry in the country”.
