Gaddafi Has Not Requested Refuge In Algeria, Diplomatic Source
The Libyan Secretary for Foreign Affairs at the general People’s Congress, Suleiman al-Shahumi, who visited Algeria recently, had conveyed a message to Algerian officials over the developments in Libya before the AU Summit.
Diplomatic source revealed to Echorouk reporter that Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has made no demand through his envoy to get refuge in Algeria.
The source mentioned that Gaddafi is still insisting on staying in his country, should he gets guarantees not to be tried in case the NTC takes over power.
The source confirmed the existence of “contacts” between Algeria and the NTC members, in the frame of efforts of the North African nation to find a political solution to the strife-torn Libya.
To recall, Suleiman al-Shahumi visited Algeria three days ago, part of a Maghreb tour. He discussed with some Algerian officials, including PM Ahmed Ouyahia, Foreign Minister, Mourad Medelci, Head of the Council of the Nation, Abdelkader Bensaleh, and Head of the People’s National Assembly, Abdelaziz Ziari.
