Gendarmerie Investigates With Abdelghani Hamel, His family For Implication In The Cocaine Case

The research and investigations group of Algiers Regional Gendarmerie heard on Tuesday the family of the Major General, Abdelghani Hamel, in the case of Kamal Chikhi known as “Al-Boushi”, while the former General Manager of National Security with the members of his family is expected today, before the investigating judge of the ninth chamber at the court of Sidi M’hamed for the second time in the same case.

Echorouk sources revealed that the research group of Bab Jdid gendarmerie heard all of the children and wife of Major General Hamel on Tuesday after collecting information and documents during the investigations that were conducted with the driver of Hamel and Al-Boushi in the case of smuggling 701 kg of cocaine.

In addition, the gendarmerie’s forensic investigations revealed that there is a direct relationship between Al-Boushi and the son of the Major General, Abdelghani Hamel, who owns the dry port of the container terminal, and when it comes to the departure of the main suspect’s containers in the cocaine smuggling case, they pass directly without control from Oran port to the dry port.

Investigation shows that Hamel used always his influence and took advantage of his job, in order to facilitate the passage of containers in favor of the port of his son, who owns more than 60% of the containers, compared to those directed to the dry port, which belongs to the state.

The same investigations reveal that the movements of Kamal Chikhi, especially between his home and Algiers Houari Boumediene International Airport, were on the vehicle of General Hamel’s family, and that the personal driver of his family “B.A” is a former first assistant to the gendarmerie, who is placed in Harrache temporary jail currently, because he was in charge of securing Al Boushi and his movements, especially to foreign countries smoothly to avoid inspection.

In this context, the examining magistrate in the ninth chamber of Algiers Sidi M’hamed Court, organized on June, 17, a direct confrontation between Kamal Chikhi and General Hamel’s driver.

On April 29, the retired Major General Abdelghani Hamel represented his son Mourad before the dean of judges at Tipaza court over corruption cases that are related to illegal activities, the use of influence, looting of property and abuse of the job, and the judicial investigations of the gendarmerie showed that Mourad Hamel was getting a piece of land that was used to build a gas station at the entrance of Tipaza province.

The case’s file also shows that the family of the Major General Hamel obtained two lands, that are very close to the shore, of more than 500 hectares in Sidi Ghilas area in Tipaza province.

Hamel also testified before the magistrate of Blida court on June,15, who heard him in the case of the former head of Algiers security district, Noureddine Berachdi, who is under judicial supervision over a corruption case involving abuse of the post, and the judge issued the decision of withdrawing the diplomatic passport of the General Hamel.
