Gendarmerie Services Prepare New Security Plan To Arrest Drug Mafia In Schools

A new security plan was prepared to protect primary and middle schools’ children from the drug and hallucinogenic pills cells, that have crept on educational institutions, and are gaining billions of dinars on the expense of the psychological and social health of pupils and cause their violence and perversion, Colonel Smail Serhoud, Commander of Algiers Regional Gendarmerie, said.

Security plan, as revealed by Colonel Serhoud, is about deploying gendarmerie elements, particularly agents of events teams in all schools at the level of Algiers, and its surroundings, for the high control and cracking down on drug dealers in all types, especially the hallucinogenics, with condensation of awareness-raising operations among the pupils in all phases, to thwart drug cells’ plans that seek to destroy the psychological situation of pupils and cause the deviation and violence leading to high rates of school dropouts.

During the presentation of the annual toll in 2016 for the activity of various units of Algiers regional gendarmerie, Colonel Serhuod confirmed that the criminal activity in the country’s capital declined significantly compared with the past years, thanks to the criminal map that identified the black places of the hotbeds of crime to ensure the security and protection of persons and properties.

In terms of figures, Maj. Hadj Mennad, Chairman of Public Security at Algiers Region Gendarmerie, explained that the protection units recorded over 1426 interventions, including 403 surveillance of kindergartens, tea rooms, internet cafe, cultural centers and halls, and providing the protection for minors in a moral danger, begging, vagrancy, escape from childhood centers and other threats.

For his part, Maj. Guechiche Djamei, Head of Algiers Gendarmerie Judicial Police, spoke about the arrest of 1 420 people who were involved in 4460 cases of public order crimes, including 63 women, while the crimes of assault and battery reach intentional record levels, as they registered 802 cases, including 6 cases of intentional murder , while over 570 cases were registered especially about organized crime cases, including 10 cases of falsifying money and another 441 cases of drugs and hallucinogenic trade, and they arrested dangerous cells that are specialized in smuggling semi pharmaceutical products.

In contrast, the same official added; “More than 821.000 people and more than 371.000 vehicles were subjected to inspection, while the National Institute of Criminal Evidence and Criminology in Bouchaoui, intervened in 2016, in 788 cases, and solved 224 cases through fingerprints and DNA, which helped investigators to find the way of committing criminal acts and determining the criminals.

In the area of road safety, Maj. Mourad Zerara, Head of Algiers Road Safety Gendarmerie, said that over 500.000 vehicles from different provinces enter the capital daily, in addition to 1.160.000 cars that carry Algiers numbering (16000).

“Security plan to reduce traffic accidents following the instructions of the gendarmerie leadership led to the withdrawal of more than 96.000 driving licenses during the year 2016, and 13.000 of these cases were due to the use of the mobile phones, and over 100,625 fines were edited as well”.
