Gerard Houllier: Algeria may qualify to World Cup
French Football coach Gerard Houllier said he is ready to cooperate with the Algerian federation and Algeria may qualify to South Africa’s World Cup.

Houllier told Echorouk in an interview he is following the qualifications and he expects Algeria qualification to the World Cup in spite of the fierce competition.

The French coach said he was impressed by the good performance of the Algerian squad in the match against Egypt, adding that “Algeria did an amazing job.”

“Saifi and Ziani will play a big role”

Houllier said Algeria vs Zambia match will be difficult for both squads. “If Algeria wins the match, it will be a first step to the world cup.”

“I know the Algerian players who play in the French championship. Saifi and Ziani are excellent players.”

“Saifi is talented and has a large experience (…) Ziani seems to have great capacities.”

“Those two players will be very useful for the Algerian squad,” Houllier added.

Houllier said he has visited the Algerian desert for many times and he is ready to do it again. “I hope this time to visit the capital Algiers.”

“Benzima is a football phenomenon”

Houllier said the Algerian player Benzima is a “real football phenomenon as he is talented.”

“He showed modest performance in this season though he scored 15 goals after he was absent in a number of matches because of injury,” he added.
