Government to stop twining cooperation between Algerian towns and foreign ones.

The Algerian government has decided to cancel the provision included in the draft law concerning the twining of Algerian towns with foreign ones in the wake of criticism and fears raised over this law, in the sense that the move will alter the characteristics of the Algerian towns and will give free way to foreign cooperation out of the government’s control.

  •
  • It should be noted that the Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia has raised the issue in the last cabinet’s meeting awaiting the discussion of a draft law concerning the municipalities next Wednesday. The two draft laws will be raised to the government’s council as a last stage before their discussion in the parliament.
  •
  • According to “Echourok” sources, strong arguments broke out between the Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia, the president’s personal representative Abdelaziz Belkhadem ,in their quality as General Secretaries of the parties in power, and the interior minister Noureddine Yazid Zerhouni.
  •
  • Both Ahmed Ouyahia and Abdelaziz Belkhadem have succeeded to impose their will and prompted the interior minister to reconsider some provisions included in the original version of the law.
