Guessoum Brandishes Red Card To Benghebrit!

The President of the Association of Algerian Muslim Scholars or Ulemas, Dr. Abderrazak Guessoum, called on the Algerian people and Muslims, jealous of their Arab and Muslim identity, to block attempts to undermine national fundamental values, including Arabism and Islam through the Arabic language and Islamic education in the new programs of education, under cover of an ill-advised reform of the educational system.

The latter strongly defended the Islamic-oriented education, considered as an essential ingredient of the Algerian society, arguing to this effect the daily violence and the negative aspects which are rife nowadays are mainly due to the lack of attention given to this outstanding subject in schools.

He also sounded the alarm about the low-down attempts by malevolent certain quarters which aim to destabilize the foundations of Muslim society, stressing that this might spawn a flawed society without an identity marker.

As a recall, Dr. Abderrazak Guessoum recently called for the revival of the Higher Education Council, as provided for in the country’s Constitution in a bid to revamp in an efficient and appropriate manner the national education system. 

In the same context, he urged the parties concerned to resort to “national expertise and Algerian experts”, owing to the salient importance of preserving the foundations of national identity and to integrate them smoothly into the school syllabuses.
