Algeria’s former head of government Mouloud Hamrouche Sunday renewed his call on decision makers in the country to hold a dialogue to get out from blockage ahead of April’s presidential elections.

Hamrouche called on President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, his Chief of Staff Gaid Saleh and intelligence department chief General Toufik to find a compromise about a program and a road map to overcome the crisis.

“Any political project can not be carried out without a compromise between those three men is bound to fail,” said Hamrouche to Liberté newspaper.

He added that candidates’ program can not meet current problems.

“The present situation represents a dangerous threat. I am worried about the country and I do not hope that the current regime falls apart. I want a compromise adopted by the Army as it is the strongest and the most organized institution which can make change. There is no chance to establish a democratic regime without the Army’s approval.”

“Those three men have to take responsibility but in the right way. They have to conduct this process. Neither opposition nor political parties can do it.”

Hamrouche also said he did not plan to run for office.

He added that there is a crisis inside the Algerian regime, saying “the country does not have development mechanisms and the regime reached a deadlock.”
