Heated debate on “Echorouk TV” between Abudjera Soltani and Rachid Boudjedra
“Echorouk TV News” broadcast on Wednesday evening a first part of a program featuring a televised debate between Algerian novelist, known for his far-leftist ideas, Rachid Boudjedra and the former leader of the Islamist Movement for a Society of Peace (MSP), Abudjera Soltani who discussed the various bones of contention between the Islamists and Communists.
The second part of this program is slated to be broadcast next Sunday May 11th.
Novelist Rachid Boudjedra hailed in his statement the entry of seven women in the newly – formed government and described as a positive move the removal of some ministers who had stayed too long within the executive referring to this effect to former culture minister Khalida Toumi whom he branded as a “rude” person.
For his part, Abudjera Soltani said that the new government was rather technocratic and devoid of Islamist and opposition figures.
He added that this new government led by Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal would find it difficult to grapple with outstanding issues because it lacks the required political experience.
Abudjera Soltani stressed in this connection that Algeria’s problems were basically of a political nature adding that they could only be dealt with efficiently by experienced and seasoned politicians.
Concerning the democracy clamoured by the Islamists and others, Rachid Boudjedra pointed out that it was only a lure and a trap set by the western countries adding that social justice was for him a priority objective instead of this illusory democracy.
In his reply, Abudjera Soltani underlined that the democracy sought by the Islamists was geared to safeguarding the fundamental national values with the ruling majority not belittling the importance of the minority excluding any ideological antagonism among the various political protagonists.
He also affirmed that the leftist movements across the world had lost significant ground on the political scene since the fall of the dividing Berlin Wall in Germany triggering off by the same token the virtual demise of communism.
