Historic encounter between Cheikh Saad Brik and Hassen Hattab in the presence of Echorouk

Echorouk newspaper attended last Thursday a historic meeting between the former leader of the Salafist group for preaching and combat –GSPC- Hassen Hattab and one of the most renowned Muslim preachers hailing from Saudi Arabia, namely Cheikh Saad Benabdallah Brik, who visited Algeria as part of an awareness-raising campaign against the scourge of terrorism.

Taking the floor during the encounter, which also witnessed the presence of several former GSPC leaders, Cheikh Saad Brik lauded Hassen Hattab for his sustained efforts aimed at convincing his former companions in the bush to forsake definitively terrorist violence and to give themselves up to the security forces with their weapons in order to be able to benefit from the clemency measures provided for in the charter for peace and national reconciliation.

Cheikh Saad Brik pointed out that blood spilling among Muslims and wanton destruction of property and infrastructures were strictly forbidden in the true religion of Islam which advocates peace, tolerance, wisdom and brotherhood.

For his part, the former GSPC leader thanked Allah Almighty for having helped him, together with his numerous comrades, relinquish for good the nefarious terrorism track and reintegrate society in all peace and security.

Hassen Hattab further paid a vibrant tribute to the President of the Republic Mr Abdellaziz Bouteflika for having initiated the commendable national reconciliation process which has yielded tangible results, he said.

Hattab added that he and his many companions would spare no effort to persuade those GSPC terrorists still in activity to lay down their arms and to surrender in order to benefit from the clemency measures enshrined in the charter for peace and national reconciliation.

The success of such a dutiful endeavour will allow Algeria to turn definitively the somber and painful page of its”national tragedy” so as to embark, in all serenity, upon an era of peace, stability development and prosperity, he asserted.
