How Did NPA Forces Succeed in Destroying Terrorist Strongholds?

The year 2024 was marked by significant results for the National People’s Army forces in counterterrorism, by destroying the strongholds of the remnants of terrorist groups and achieving positive results through qualitative operations.

NPA forces succeeded during 10 months of the current year in neutralizing and arresting a large number of terrorists, dismantling several backup cells and destroying a significant number of hideouts for terrorist organizations while recovering an arsenal of weapons and ammunition.

In detail, the armed forces were able, from January 1 to October 30, 2024, to neutralize 54 terrorists and arrest 385 elements supporting terrorist groups, while discovering and destroying 14 hideouts used by terrorist groups, and recovering 169 firearms and 84 hunting rifles, in addition to 47 homemade bombs and large quantities of ammunition.

The command of the National People’s Army attributed these results achieved in the field of counterterrorism and eliminating terrorists’ remnants to the focus on effective field planning and, most importantly, on intelligence work and elements, stressing that its units relied on their security plans on the accuracy of the information and the speed of its exchange between the agencies, units and detachments specialized in counterterrorism, in addition to the continuous coordination between them.

The Ministry of National Defense also confirmed that the current strategy in dealing with terrorist threats is based on the speed of obtaining security information, optimal exploitation, and the quick movement of security forces to the targeted site, the precise intervention, according to an effective strategy that depends on the tight deployment of its various military units and effective coordination between them, to tighten control over all border crossings and protect and monitor them to deter any criminal act that threatens the stability and security of the country.

In this context, General Saïd Chengriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and chief of NPA Staff, recently confirmed that Algeria, with its citizens, its National People’s Army and its institutions, has triumphed in countering terrorism alone, and has been able to develop a unique experience in combating and preventing this scourge, both at the operational level and by developing an integrated and multidimensional national approach.
