Ibadite and Malekite schools get together for Holy Koran competition

The Ibadite schools for Koran teaching located in Algiers decided to take part in the qualifiers for the first time alongside the Maliki schools under the aegis of the religious Affairs ministry in a bid to foster a climate of confidence and a spirit of reconcilation between the 2 communities after the sad events of Berriane in southern Algeria.

  • Talking yesterday in the monthly forum of Algiers preachers, the head of the religious affairs;  Lezhari Messadi  declared that the main supervisor of the Ibadhi Koran schools Alhadj Beksser has decided to take part in this competition, for the first time ever in a bid to narrow the gaps between Algerians and bar the route for those who want to fuel fire between the different ethnic groups.
  • Algiers is home to 14 Maliki Koran schools and 10 Ibadhi ones all dedicated to the teaching of Koran using a boarding system. The number saw a steady increase over the last few years in the capital city.
  • It should be noted that The Maliki trend is different from the Ibadhi one, on a single issue only forcing each of them to stick to its own specificity.
