Illegal immigrants intercepted at sea by Algerian coast guards
The coast guards of the province of Annaba (eastern Algeria) yesterday intercepted a third group of illegal immigrants in a week.

The new “caravan” of illegal immigrants comprises, according to the officer Zaidi Abdelaziz, 23 young men aging between 17 and 33yeras old, including 16 from the province of Annaba while others came from different parts of the country. They were all bound for Italia.

They adventurers were intercepted at around am two miles away from an area known “Ras Al Hamra”, while they were trying to reach the Italian shores on a wooden boat equipped with an engine. They stared off at around 11 pm from “Joinville” beach.

Local authorities brought the illegal immigrants before the judge to be heard. They were charged for illegally quitting the Algerian soil.

Meanwhile, the coast of the province of Annaba yesterday rescued 31 illegal immigrants whose boat was stranding 45 miles at the threshold of the Italian territorial waters. Their boat’s engine broke down and left them drifting at the mercy of the raging sea.

It should be noted that a total of 127 illegal immigrants were intercepted since the beginning of the week in the eastern and western shores of the country. These successive operations coincide with the presence of Algerian parliamentarians in Naples, who paid an official visit to Italy in a move to discuss with their Italian counterparts several top issues in relation with illegal immigration.
