Immigrant doctors can not teach in Algeria
Algerian higher education ministry refused to allow lecturers and researchers to teach in national universities, saying that some of them left the country without an administrative authorization and some others did not respect contracts.
The ministry also said some teachers can not be appointed at senior positions although they have certificates from foreign universities. The Algerian higher education system does not acknowledge foreign scientific positions even if it was delivered from Harvard University.
Earlier in April 2013, the ministry accepted to make an exception to a limited number of Algerian executives who have already worked in Algeria to hold senior positions. The rest of the teachers must take examination tests in Algeria with new candidates.
In this way, the higher education ministry deprives many executives of working in Algeria. Algerian professors abroad can not be appointed at the Algerian university only if they accept to hold the position of assistant professor. They will have to work for a year or more under the supervision of local professors.
Algerian executives working at foreign universities believe that the ministry’s decision as “incomparable scientific humiliation.”
