Impressive security plan deployed to secure New Year’s Eve celebrations.

More than 90 thousand policemen and 5 thousand gendarmerie troops have been assigned the task to secure the New Year’s celebrations and guarantee the citizens’ safety, as part of a special security plan deployed by the authorities, corroborating sources revealed.

• A top source from the gendarmerie command has indicated that their services have dedicated 80 % of their overall units to stiffen security in the southern parts of the country, including the regions of Tamanrasset, Ghardaia and Ouargla which witness large tourist activities during this period of the year with the flocking of foreign nationals from all over the world.

• More than 2300 tourists are set to visit worldwide famous sites like Tadrart, Admer, Tikabouine, Tegherghert and Assendiline to take part to the New Year’s celebrations.

• This security plan was undertaken to foil any terrorist act from the so called “ Salafit Group for Call and Combat” as it was the case with the Spanish nationals who were kidnapped in the region of Nouadibou, Mauritania recently, and the German tourists few years ago.
