Interior minister to journalists: Historians should be objective when evoking Revolution

The interior minister Dahou Oueld Kablia has declared that Algeria failed in bringing back the nation’s glorious past to the citizen’s memory ad failed to inform him about the details of the war of independence, though he considers the huge budget allocated to the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of independence as something logical if we compare it to the sacredness of the event.

  • He has slashed out at the style, with which history has been written since now that pushed many actors of the revolution indulge in self- glorification, criticising on the occasion the revolutionaries that try to appear as the exclusive heroes, saying that the real hero of the revolution is the Algerian people.

  • Replying to Echourouk question at “ Liberte Forum”, Oueld Kablia has noted that the Algerian authorities have allotted 60 billion Algerian Dinars to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the independence.

  • The operation has a double objective, the minster said. The first one aims at displaying fifty years of achievements and the second to the glorification of the Algerian Revolution and convey its symbolic to the younger generations, with the view to responding to those who advocate that history should be folded and put in the litter bins.

  • The minister has asserted that the next local elections are slated for November 29, noting that the president will summon the electoral body in the beginning of September. Oueld Kablia warned the parties that intend to take part to these elections against the fall in the trap of the proportional, referring to the 7% included in the electoral law.

  • Oueld Kablia has indicated that the results will be similar to those witnessed during the last legislative if the parties fail to build alliances among them.

  • He went on sating that except one or three parties, the small and newly created parties will not succeed during the upcoming elections and better for them to join forces and build coalitions, noting that his ministry received 30 requests for the approval of new parties.

  • As to the content of the assessment carried out by the European observers, the minister said that it was positive in general except some observations purely technical. Replying to a question concerning the lethargy that’s prevailing currently on the political scene, Oueld Kablia said the government is carrying out its duties normally though seven ministries are ran ad-interim.

  • On the security issues, the minister has asserted that the situation has improved significantly and stability has been retrieved, mentioning to the slump of the number of terrorist acts in the major towns. But he admitted that the situation is still sensitive in five provinces mentioning to a heavy activity of the military troops in those regions.

  • M Oueld Kablia has staunchly denied news reported on the press concerning a presidential decree for the disbanding of the municipality guard, noting that another decree in the offing instructs the military authorities to join the remaining elements of this security body to the defence ministry instead of the interior ministry.
