Interior Ministry enjoins Governors and Mayors to get ready for major September event
The Ministry of the Interior and local Assemblies has summoned in an informal manner the Governors, the heads of Administrative districts and the Mayors to get ready for an important event slated for next September.
Well-informed sources told Echorouk that the Interior Ministry’s request was linked to the preparation for an election event pertaining to a projected popular referendum on the revision of the country’s constitution in line with the pledges contained in Bouteflika’s electoral program.
Bouteflika’s election campaign manager, Abdelmalek Sellal, repeatedly said during the recent campaign trail that such a process related to the revamping of the constitution would be initiated before the end of the year.
The same sources added that the projected amended constitution to be approved through a referendum would be “consensual” as underlined in President Bouteflika’s written speech distributed to the press after the swearing – in ceremony held on Monday at the conference hall of the Palace of the Nations on the western coast of Algiers.
In so doing, President Bouteflika is keen, through the approval by referendum of the overhauled constitution, to secure a bona fide legitimacy for the April 17 elections after a number of vying candidates challenged the polls results in addition to bolstering national cohesion and stability and consolidating national reconciliation.
