Interior Ministry Shocks Thousands of Algerians Abroad

Interior Ministry informed Algerian nationals abroad that the granting of the biometric passports for emergency cases will not be for people who do not have travel documents and residence, and whose Algerian nationality is not confirmed.

It revealed that only 520 emergency passports were issued since the start of this action.

“Process of granting emergency passports will be after confirmation of receiving the positive response from the hosting country’s authorities at the request of residence, which is filed by the applicants’ passports.”

Interior and Local Groups Ministry, Noureddine Badaoui, responded in a written question by the deputy of community at parliament for the fourth region of Europe, except with France and the Americas, Noureddine Belmeddah, which is dated on April, 27, 2016, that the passport is only granted to people whose identities are proved, and who have chances of receiving a positive response by the hosting country’s authorities with regard to residence.

He explained that the acceptance of granting the passport of urgency can not always be proven with a document such as those that the United States granted for the residence applicants when depositing the file, but the file acceptance should be confirmed, as is the case with the European countries, through coordination between the consulates, the immigration department and administrative services that deposited the applications for residency at their level, and granted all the powers to approve the granting of the urgency passport to the person who asked for it, according to the same document to the head of the diplomatic center, which can decide about it.
