Iranian Books Banned From Attending Algiers International Fair

Algerian Customs have banned 1200 copies of Iranian books from entering to the country, as they were supposed to participate in the Algiers International Book Fair as by 21 September, in addition to fairs that are scheduled at the sidelines of the festivity of Tlemcen: the Capital of Islamic Culture.

Well informed sources told Echorouk reporter that Customs in the port of Algiers have banned 48 packages containing 25 books each, as they lack entry permit of both the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Border Guard.

The source added that two main titles have been seized and not authorized, namely “Algeria with Iranian Vision” and “Tlemcen: Resistance and Gratitude.” The first book treats the Algerian actuality with a pure Iranian ideology quite different from Algeria Sunit background.

The second book evokes the role of Sufi Koran schools in the resistance of Tlemcen along the colonial periods that the region witnessed.

The government sees in the two aforementioned books a threat to the intellectual security of the country, as their contents may incite division and sectarian.

To recall, Algeria law bans the entering of books inciting racial discrimination, extremism, terrorism and pornography.
