Iraq ready to extradite Algerian detainees

Iraqi government announced readiness to sign a deal for exchanging detainees with Algeria and other Arab countries, which have prisoners in Baghdad.

Iraqi Justice Minister, Hassan Shamri, said his country is aiming to organize the judicial ties about exchanging prisoners with Arab and foreign countries, which would contribute in promoting the human rights standards.

The minister asserted, during his reception of an Algerian mission, which moved to verify the situation of Algerian prisoners in Iraq, that the government is ready to sign deal for exchanging prisoners in order to create  stable international ties with Arab and foreign countries.

“There is coordination with Arab justice ministers, during the meetings that are held periodically in order to create Arab ties based on solid infrastructures. We will exchange information about this matter via diplomatic channels and foreign ministers of the two countries”.

“Number of Algerian prisoners in the ministries’ detentions is 11 between arrested and sentenced, distributed in Naghdad provinces and detentions. The mission can visit the detentions and see the situation of their nationals”.

According to the Iraqi media, the Algerian part told it’s Iraqi counterpart that Algeria is willing to create political ties to boost cooperation in all political and justice fields, asserting that the deal of exchanging prisoners will be the first fruit of the partnership and diplomatic openness, and a first step to reopen the Algerian embassy in Iraq.
