The National Organization of Islamic Sciences Teachers will sue the national education minister Nouria Benghebrit for « hitting the Algerian society values and national identity. » This comes as she said Islamic sciences subject will be banned from the Baccalaureate exam.

In a communiqué released on Tuesday, the organization said recent remarks made by officials at the ministry show that Islamic sciences will be a secondary or optional subject.

The organization’s Secretary General Boudjemaa Chihoub told Echorouk a meeting was held by its representatives in response to the “second generation reforms.”

He said those reforms hit the national identity and do not respect the law.

“Because of that, we will sue the ministry if her draft bill is passed,” he added.

“We will send a letter to the President and Prime Minister. A sit-in will be held before the cabinet meeting.”
