Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi told a press conference with Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal that: “The most beautiful page of the relationship between Italy and Algeria is yet to be written.”

He went on to say: “Although there is a long history of friendship, between the two countries, just remember the figure of Enrico Mattei.” The founder and president of the Italian oil and gas giant Eni was a keen supporter of Algerian independence.
Concerning the bilateral cooperation, Renzi affirmed that “Algeria remains a fundamental partner” for Italy.

Speaking to the Italian businessmen and industrialists, he said that relations with Algeria are “excellent”, assuring them that “the Italian government makes every effort to ensure that those wishing to invest in Algeria are accompanied in this friend and ally country.”

Matteo Renzi said that by intensifying and consolidating the cooperation with Algeria, both countries preserve their traditional relationships of friendship.

Finally, he also “thanked” Algeria for its participation in the World Expo Milan 2015, saying the two countries play an important role in the Mediterranean in order to “assert their values of civilization, peace sharing and the fight against terrorism.”

Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal said for his part in Rome that “everything encourages” Algeria and Italy “to establish a mutually beneficial relationship.”

“Today, everything encourages our two friendly countries to have a mutually beneficial relationship, reinforced by geographical proximity, the Mediterranean shores and common destiny,” Sellal said as addressing the 3rd Algerian-Italian High level meeting in Rome.

Sellal started on Wednesday a working visit to Italy at the invitation of President of Italian Council of Ministers Matteo Renzi.

The Prime Minister added that this visit marked by the signing of ten (10) bilateral cooperation accords in several fields of endeavor, is part of “a bilateral tradition of fruitful dialogue in order to build an enhanced strategic partnership for the benefit of our two peoples.”

It also demonstrates the common resolve to pursue consultations on regional and international issues of common concern, he emphasized.
