Italian Right Wing Calls Upon Government To Hound Algerian Illegal Immigrants

Right-wing parties called upon the Italian Interior Minister to take resolute steps with Algeria to stop the flow of illegal immigrants from the coast of Annaba (eastern Algeria) toward the island of Sardinia, asserting that the minister is required to make an urgent visit to Algeria to discuss the ways to stop this phenomenon.

A letter that was addressed to by Italian right-wing parties and was published by cross-agency communication called Maiora Media in the island of Sardinia, dated January 9, 2017, and which copy is available to Echorouk, to ask the Interior Minister, Marco Minetti, to take a firm position against Algeria to stop the flow of Algerian illegal immigrants off the coast of the island of Sardinia, noting that the minister Minetti was in Tripoli and had to turn his visit to Algeria to discuss ways to stop this flow.

Same letter stated that the statistics of the Italian Interior Ministry refer to the arrival of more than a thousand illegal immigrants from Algeria on boats directly from the Algerian coast to Sardinia during 2016, explaining in a sarcastic language; “Mr. Minister, early in the new year alone, six illegal immigrants came from Algeria to the island, and it does not seem that there is a reason on the horizon that proves the halting of this phenomenon”.

“Illegal immigrants who arrived to the island are Algerians, and the majority of them are young people. It’s about youth and exclusively male and during the last three years only three Algerian women arrived.”

“They are taking advantage of Annaba coast to reach Sardinia, and they know very well that they do not meet the minimum conditions to apply for asylum in Italy, and their only goal is to get within 72 hours on the document of deportation from Italy”.

“Algerian illegal immigrants are taking advantage of this special document for deportation as a travel document, and after getting the money from the robberies and drug trafficking, they buy a ticket, of course, not to return to Algeria, but to hide in the Italian territory”.

Right wing parties addressed the newly appointed Italian Interior Minister, Marco Minetti, saying; “We have read that you recently traveled to Tunisia, Malta and today -January,9, 2017-  you will be in Tripoli. We thought that we suggest you to complete your trip to Algeria, even in a short tour”.

“Such a visit will enable you to discuss with the authorities of that country (as it described Algeria), the problem of illegal immigrants’ deportation, but also the boats that are leaving its shores”.

Italian right letter goes farther when it proposed to the Interior Minister, Marco Minetti, to work with Algeria to sign a joint agreement, that enables the patrols of the two countries’ Coast Guards from working in the sea between Algeria and Sardinia, which will enable a significant reduction in the boats that come directly from Algeria, calling for the application of deterrent measures to minimize these boats.
