Algeria’s energy group Sonatrach impose dits conditions on Italians in terms of gas talks clauses. New contracts will be signed within few days, according to Italy’s Ambassador to Algiers.

The Ambassador Wednesday said talks continue between Sonatrach, Italian enterprises and authorities to renew gas contracts. They will be long-term contracts in accordance with conditions previously set by Sonatrach. Conventions will be signed in the next few days. 

He added that Italy is a strategic partner for Algeria in the field of energy and gas.

He told Echorouk that Italy will not give up its gas quota in the Algerian market. “Some old contracts have not expired yet. We will sign new long-term contracts within few days. Algeria plays an important role in ensuring energy security for Italy.”

He also said working teams were established to examine common projects in the field of cars, entrepreneurship, food industry, tourism and energy. 

“Italy is still Algeria’s first client.”

Speaking about cases handled by Italian justice, the Ambassador said the court only which has prerogatives to decide in the issue. 

« The number of Algerian illegal immigrants in Italy is very small. There is a plan to grant 30,000 in 2016. Algerians respect laws and do not make troubles,” he added.
