“Khouya” (Brother) by Yanis Koussim, violence against women unveiled

ALGIERS- “Khouya” (My brother), short film by Yanis Koussim, screened Wednesday night preview at Algiers, deals with violence against women through a family of three sisters “terrorized” by a violent brother.

For twenty minutes, Yamina, Nabila and Imen identified the feelings of fear, anguish and suffering in silence, feeling, that in aggregate they have developed in extreme hatred that eventually transform them obviously into killers.

The history of these unfortunate sisters beaten by their brother Tarek, under the helpless look by a consent imposed by traditional mores of their mother, reflected a clear sense of daily helplessness and distress.
