Libya imposes customs tax on Algerian cars

Libyan authorities imposed customs tax on Algerian cars to enter to Libya four days ago amid dissatisfaction among Algerian businessmen.

  • The tax which is estimated at 11,000 DZ came into force on Thursday’s night. It was about to include Tunisians’ cars before deciding to limit the tax on the Algerian cars only, according to some businessmen from El Oued province (southeast of Algiers).
  • They say it is not the first decision that Libya took against the Algerian nationals. “It will have negative social and economic consequences on the economy of areas next to the Algerian Libyan borders.
  • They asked Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to intervene and convince the Libyan authorities to ban the decision.
  • The decision comes as part of surprising measures taken by Libya including the taxes on new cars decided in 2003.
