Libya prisoners’ families to protest at president’s office

Families of Algerian prisoners in Libya decided to protest at the president’s office on May 16 to ask for deportation to Algeria.

  •
  • The prisoners told Echorouk on the phone they are afraid that the Algerian and Libyan authorities do not implement prisoners exchange agreement as quick as possible.
  • They wondered why the authorities have not deported them yet although relations between Algeria and Libya do not witness any tension.
  • Yet, they are still hoping for their release especially that they are living in bad conditions in prisons where Africans represent 55 percent. Most of them suffer from serious diseases.
  • Prisoners’ representative Abdelhalim Ramtani said one of the Libyan prisoners suffers from AIDS while officials do not separate him from the rest of the detainees.
  • According to the prisoners, nine Algerians died about two years ago while most of them were not suffering from any disease before going to jail.
