Mahrez named Africa's best player
Algerian player Riyad Mahrez Thursday won the Confederation of African Football’s player of the year award. He is also the PFA Player of the Year and BBC African Footballer of the Year.
The second place was won by Borussia Dortmund’s Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang followed by Senegal and Liverpool striker Sadio Mane.
According to observers, Mahrez’s nomination will encourage Algeria’s players to win the 31st African Cup of Nations due to be organized between January 14th and February 5th in Gabon.
Algeria won its first and only African title in 1990.
Its coach Georges Leekens relies on Mahrez to boost the players. “The light will come from soldier Mahrez,” he said.
