Maj. Gen. Abdelghani Hamel called for accelerating the creation of “AFRIPOL” to face security situation in Africa

General Manager of National Security, Major General, Abdelghani Hamel, called for the need to accelerate the establishment of the African mechanism for cooperation in the fight against crime “AFRIPOL”, in view of the ongoing criminal threats and security challenges in the African continent.
Major General, Abdelghani Hamel, called, during the opening of the third meeting of the Committee for the establishment of the African mechanism for cooperation in the field of police “AFRIPOL” on Wednesday in Algiers, for intensifying efforts to accelerate the establishment of the African mechanism, so as to combat various forms of crime.
“Combating crime needs conditioned answers, through providing means and devices, and strengthening regional and international cooperation, and developing capacities and methods.”
“This meeting is a crucial stage, which will allow the identification of AFRIPOL needs, during the next budget of the African Union, to make it practical in an official capacity in 2016, and identifying its projects, plans and program. We are satisfied of the achievements which culminated in their last meetings, since the ratification of the core document, and Algiers declaration on AFRIPOL establishment.”
“AFRIPOL is an independent mechanism that will strengthen African security cooperation. Headquarters of this mechanism will be in Algiers. Algeria is seeking to provide this office, and this is in accordance with the aspirations and the level of this mechanism which has a noble task, aiming to develop African cooperation in the fight against organized crime and terrorism.”
This meeting will discuss the Basic Law and various regulatory provisions for this mechanism, and discuss AFRIPOL budget project, which is currently the responsibility of the African Union.
