Man Utd v Arsenal

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie will miss the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Manchester United because of a groin injury.

  • The Dutchman missed the 4-4 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday and will be out until at least the game with Portsmouth on 2 May.
  • Manchester United defenders Gary Neville (foot) and John O’Shea (ankle)are ruled out for both legs.
  • Both limped off during the 2-0 win over Portsmouth on Wednesday.
  • However, United will be boosted by the return of defender Wes Brown, who has only made two substitute appearances since October due to a foot injury.
  • The 29-year-old could feature against Tottenham on Saturday after successfully coming through a reserve team outing at Preston on Monday.
  • Better news for Arsenal is that goalkeeper Manuel Almunia (ankle), defender Johan Djourou (knee) and striker Emmanuel Adebayor (hamstring) are back in training after missing the game at Anfield.
  • All three could feature against Middlesbrough on Sunday ahead of the first leg at Old Trafford.
  • Left back Gael Clichy will not recover in time from his back injury for Wednesday’s match though.
  • “He could be back for the second Manchester United game. He has a scan on Monday. We’ll go from there. He has a chance to be back in full training next week,” Gunners boss Arsene Wenger told www.arsenal.com.
