Marine Le Pen’s Racist Statements Against Franco-Algerians
French National Front leader Marine Le Pen has required from the National Assembly to abrogate the possibility to have a double citizenship, saying people have to choose allegiance between France and another country.
According to AFP news agency, Ms Le Pen has addressed a letter to the 77 MPs of the National Assembly to demand the abrogation the possibility to have a double citizenship (French and foreign one), because it harms the republicanism cohesion.”
She said in her letter: “Nowadays, people belonging to other nations contribute increasingly and alarmingly in fading our compatriots’ acceptance of a destiny community, and yet to blow up fundamental actions of the state.”
The French National Front leader further added in her letter: “the soar of the number of bi-nationals is a problem today, which French are increasingly aware of, and legislator cannot ignore.”
She said: “Could we reasonably think that France could have asked a military intervention in Libya, if the number of Franco-Libyans was high?” adding: “foreigners placed in this situation have to choose allegiance to France or another nation.”
Observers said Le Pen’s letter is another attack against emigrants in France, principally of Algerian descent, who represent the biggest foreign community there.
However, the left wing slammed Marine Le Pen’s statements.
According to a survey published in March in Le Parisien, Ms Le Pen is so popular she would gain an unprecedented first-round victory if the French were to go to the polls today.
If successful in next year’s presidential elections, Ms Le Pen would set up a “sovereignty ministry” to enable “France to be its own boss in its own country”. According to her, France should determine its own policy on financial matters and immigration.
